To our dearrest daughter, Tara

I remember so clearly that 2 years ago, Daddy and I waited 41 weeks and 20 hours to meet you in person. On that day, March 16th, 2006, Grandma Rice, Khun Yai (Grandma in Thai), and Uncle Dew waited all day with us in the hospital to see you. When you finally joined us in the world, you were 9 lbs 14 oz and 21 inches. You are the light of our life. After that day, waking up during the night to comfort you became my routine and I loved to do it.

I still remember taking you back to Bangkok to see Khun Ta (Grandpa in Thai) and Khun Yai. When they saw you, they said that you looked very “Foreign”…haha. Yes, you look very Caucasian, but you are half Thai and American. Daddy always says that you have my little Thai nose
I can’t believe that you are 2 years old now. This morning, we woke you up, brought you to our bed and sang the “Happy Birthday” song for you. You were very happy and kept saying “Happy Birthday to You!!!”.

I have planned for your birthday for several weeks now. I wanted it to be special for you – a little celebration just for Tara. It started with Grandma and Papaw (Grandpa Dale). They bought you a new bedding set for your toddler bed. Daddy and I decided to renovate your room as part of the present for you. You loved it so much, that I decided to go with a zoo animals theme for the party that matches your new room.

It turned out to be a great theme and a lot of fun. I adored your birthday cake. When ordering it, I told the cake lady what I wanted and to let them surprise me. They did a wonderful job. You got so excited when you saw all the animals on your cake!!! (the next day you had something in your mouth—when I asked “what are you eating?”, you replied “Elephant!!!!”)

We knew you liked it, because when you blew out your candles, you said “Thank you” to everyone. It was such a great birthday because many of your family and friends joined you to celebrate.

After cake, you received so many presents from your family and friends. But, you were distracted so easily after opening a couple of gifts, that Aunt Mel and I helped you open most of the gifts..haha

Grandma and Papaw surprised you with another big present—a Tricycle!!! You were very happy when you saw it and tried to ride on it. Your little feet didn’t touch the paddles quite yet, but Daddy will fix it and I am sure that you will become an expert in a few months. My only wish is that Khun Ta and Khun Yai were here to celebrate with you too. They love you very much also. Their birthday gift to you is your first music lessons at “We Joy Sing” in April.

We thank all of our family and friends for joining us and for the love and birthday wishes from near and from far from Thailand to our precious daughter. We are so grateful to have you all as part of our life. Thank you for making Tara’s 2nd Birthday so wonderful.

Lastly, Daddy and I wish you all the best in this world, and that we look forward to teaching and raising you and showing you so many new experiences for years to come.

We love you with all of our hearts,
Daddy and Mae
